Since 2005, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg has actively participated in the European Mobility Week, which takes place every year from 16 to 22 September.

The aim of the campaign is, on the one hand, to raise awareness among cities, municipalities, and their residents, as well as cross-border workers, about sustainable mobility, and on the other hand, to improve the health and quality of life of the population.

To achieve this, the Ministry of Mobility and Public Works encourages local authorities to introduce and promote sustainable transport measures, inviting their residents to try alternatives to driving.

The annual theme for the 2026 edition is “Mobility for Everyone” and aims to ensure access to transportation for all people, regardless of income, place of residence, gender, or abilities.

Many people face obstacles such as high costs or a lack of transport options, limiting their access to employment, education, and essential services; this phenomenon is known as “transport poverty” or “mobility insecurity.”

In 2025, European Mobility Week promotes transportation that is available, accessible, affordable, inclusive, and safe.

Public transport ensures that walking and cycling are fair options for everyone.

The Social Climate Fund helps communities and households adapt to these changes by supporting affordable and sustainable mobility solutions.

The European Commission has published recommendations for Member States to develop integrated policies aimed at reducing mobility insecurity and promoting fair transport systems that exclude no one.

Every year, cities and municipalities in Luxembourg join forces with the Ministry of Mobility and Public Works as part of European Mobility Week.
