Municipalities
Municipalities
Municipalities, take action !
Any municipality or city in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg can participate in European Mobility Week, regardless of its size. For this campaign, the number of residents and the area of the municipality do not matter—what counts is your commitment to improving mobility for residents and cross-border workers!
Benefits
The European Mobility Week is an opportunity to connect people, highlight sustainable mobility and encourage innovative ideas. Participating municipalities:
- Adopt a greener and more innovative image;
- Encourage local engagement for sustainable mobility;
- Create synergies with other municipalities and with national and European stakeholders;
- Promote dialogue with residents and cross-border workers;
- Demonstrate how alternatives to private cars can improve quality of life;
- Enhance the attractiveness of their municipality;
- Test innovative measures and gather feedback before implementing permanent infrastructure.
- Receive support for organizing and promoting their activities;
- Benefit from greater visibility in the press;
- Participate in workshops, conferences, and meetings.
The 3 pillars of the campaign
To register for European Mobility Week, you must take part in at least one of the three pillars of the campaign:
- Activities during the week: Organise a week of activities from 16 to 22 September, in line with the annual theme. Whether it’s mobility days, rallies, competitions, or even handing out pastries to public transport users—there are plenty of educational and fun ways to promote sustainable mobility.
- Car-Free Day: Celebrate a Car-Free Day by reserving one or more areas in your municipality exclusively for pedestrians, cyclists, and public transport users. Car-Free Day is preferably held on 22 September, the traditional date for this event, and must last at least a full day (from one hour before to one hour after normal working hours).
- Permanent measures: Implement at least one new permanent measure that encourages a shift from private cars to environmentally friendly modes of transport. Where possible, these measures should permanently reclaim road space for walking, cycling, or public transport (road closures, wider sidewalks, new cycle paths or bus lanes, new traffic calming systems, reduced speed limits, etc.).
